Elsa Yeo was born in Labuan, Sabah, East Malaysia and grew up in Singapore. She worked as a kindergarten teacher while attending personal enhancement and modelling courses at the Louise Klerk Academy in Singapore. She left for London in the 1960s and trained with the Christine Shaw Beauty School. Upon her return to Singapore, she worked as a Mannequin Instructress and fashion coordinator with the Michelle Beauty and Model Academy. Two years later, in 1973, she started the Elsa Yeo Model Centre and E.Y. Agency. She was married to an Italian businessman, Enrico Miserendino, who was the chairman of Olivetti (S) Pte Ltd.
