Professor Lim Pin, a highly-respected practicing endocrinologist and clinical teacher, played a key role in laying the foundation for Singapore to develop into the research powerhouse it is today.

Professor Lim Pin is a Professor of Medicine at the National University of Singapore and Senior Consultant Endocrinologist at the National University Hospital. He was the former Vice-Chancellor of NUS from 1981 to 2000, laying the foundation for NUS to develop into a leading university in the world. He has been accorded the highest academic title of ‘NUS University Professor’ in recognition of his work and achievements.
While pursuing full-time academic and clinical work, Prof Lim continues to serve in Government committees and until recently, corporate Directorships. He is currently Chairman of the Board of Trustees – Ang Mo Kio Community Hospital, Special Needs Trust Company, NUH Fund and Jurong Health Fund, and is Deputy Chairman of the Lee Kuan Yew Water Prize Council. He also chairs the Advisory Council of Temasek Foundation Innovates and is a member of the National Research Foundation Governing Council of NUS’ Campus for Research Excellence And Technological Enterprise (CREATE). In addition he co-chaired a number of international collaborative research centres between Singapore universities and several global universities (MIT and UC Berkeley in the United States; Cambridge in England; Germany’s Technical University of Munich and Switzerland’s ETH).
He was the founding Chairman of the Bioethics Advisory Committee (BAC) of Singapore from 2001 to 2010 and Chairman of the National Wage Council (NWC) from 2001 to 2015.
Prof Lim holds a Master of Arts and a Doctor of Medicine from the University of Cambridge, UK. He is a Fellow of the Academy of Medicine of Singapore (“FAMS”), FRCP (London) and FRACP. He was Head Prefect of RI in 1956 and Queen’s Scholar in 1957.
