Jaya reflects on life in Singapore, giving readers a unique perspective on how two developing countries with ethnically diverse populations took different trajectories over the decades; one fostering religious harmony and enjoys prosperity while the other fanned racial divisions and faces bankruptcy today. She is never afraid to speak her mind, and though times have changed and many things have come and gone, the one aspect that’s never changed about her is her willingness to speak her mind especially about the unjustness Ceylon Tamils face in their own country, about challenges of married life and facing a major health crisis at 40. Jaya’s story is one of inspiration, showing that no matter what age you are, there is always something new ahead to explore, enjoy and expand one's learning.
Jaya Baleswari Ramachandra has experienced more change in her 80 years than many people do in a lifetime. She's seen the world transform from a time of great adventure to the digital age we live in now. Despite all these changes, Jaya has always been an energetic, creative, and curious individual. Growing up in Colombo and having moved to Singapore, where she spent most of her life, Jaya has learned and seen a lot in her years. She’s had her fair share of challenges and joys as a woman, daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, friend, and lifelong lerner. Now, she is an author who has decided to share her knowledge in experiences throughout her life. Jaya is also a dedicated volunteer, sharing her passion for adventure and life with others. She inspires others with her never-ending curiosity for knowledge and thirst for new experiences! She believes that we all have something valuable to share with the world and wants everyone to know that no matter your age, you can always make a difference.
