Ashley Chan leads a double life: university student by day, escort by night.
The proposition is deceptively simple: people pay Ashley to act out their sexual gratifications. The variations are endless, but the work is not easy. In an eye-opening, intimate memoir, Ashley Chan, 24, reveals the inside world of Singapore's high-end escorts and the inner turmoil that comes with it. One lesson she has learned: bad things happen if you stay in the game for too long.
Scarlet Harlot is written with Gerrie Lim, a veteran pop-culture writer known for his books on the sex industry.

“Incredibly stimulating. I sat down and read the whole thing. I like the tone—unashamed frankness, Singapore straightforwardness—and I was really interested in the family background and her aspirations.”
—Paul Theroux, author of Saint Jack"An unexpectedly revealing memoir of what it’s like to be a woman in modern-day Singapore, and the struggles one goes through as someone leading life on the fringe of society."
—Bakchormeeboy"Giving this taboo topic an almost hilarious sort of banality is actually really useful in helping to humanise sex workers in Singapore, something that is desperately needed to keep the people in this industry safe in their line of work."
—Wonderwall.sg"Ashley Chan's story bares all the trials and tribulations of reclaiming one's sexuality in this hierarchical world we live in. I'm glad she lived to tell."
—Vanessa Ho, executive director of Project X, Singapore"Candid and intimate, by turns a dishy autobiographical expose, this co-written memoir will shine an unpretentious light on a slice of Singapore seldom seen." —Cyril Wong, author of This Side of Heaven

Ashley Chan is a pseudonym for the author, a 24-year-old Singaporean escort and a final-year university student. Contrary to popular belief, she considers herself quiet and introverted—not quite the party-girl persona—but she does enjoy the money, time and flexibility of her lifestyle. She enjoys not wearing panties in public as a fashion statement.
Gerrie Lim is the author of seven books, including Invisible Trade: High Class Sex for Sale in Singapore; Invisible Trade 2: Secret Lives and Sexual Intrigue in Singapore, Singapore Rebel: Searching for Annabel Chong and In Lust We Trust: Adventures in Adult Cinema. He has a master's in print journalism from the University of Southern California and a bachelor's in politics from the University of Western Australia, and was previously published in Billboard, Details, LA Style, LA Weekly, Penthouse, Playboy and The Wall Street Journal.
