Inspired by the traditional Chinese opera known as Wayang.
Amber loves playing with her cymbals. But her mother is annoyed by all the din and calls her ‘a whole noisy wayang rolled up in one small girl’. After watching a wayang show, Amber decided that she wants to be a wayang performer. She takes lessons from a veteran performer. Through her lessons, Amber learns about the main roles in Chinese opera and the intricacies of this traditional performing art.

Ho Lee-Ling is an award-winning Singapore author who has written over 20 picture and chapter books for children of different ages. Lee-Ling is a former history teacher and museum educator with a passion for the history of Singapore and the region. She has a PhD in Public History and is actively involved in historical research, oral history interviews and curation of exhibitions as partner in The History Workroom.
