A sampan is a small, flat-bottomed boat commonly found in Southeast Asia. It is traditionally used by fishermen for transportation and fishing in rivers and coastal areas. The author learnt from her grandmother, the art of folding a paper boat resembling the real-life version.
Discover the enchanting world of "Sampan" with your little one. This delightful and beautifully illustrated children's book takes pre-school children on a journey of discovery as a sampan floats gently along a river. Introduce your child to the wonders of nature and adventure with "Sampan," a must-have addition to their early reading collection.
This tale of the imaginary adventures of a sampan is bound to delight children in lower primary schools. As a bonus, the author gives instructions to readers on how a sampan can be folded and children can embark on their own adventure version as the paper boat navigates the streams and waterways where it is launched.
This picture book won an award in the Samsung Kidstime Authors' Award competition in 2016 when it was first launched.

Sampan is the first picture book by Chua Hui Ying and it won an award. Her second book I Wish I Had a Dog, and latest book I Can’t Do Many Things has the same delightfulness which won her an award for her first book. A counsellor by day, Hui Ying was inspired to write this because she grew up in house with a garden which engendered her to love nature. She hopes that Sampan in its own small way, will introduce nature to children and stir their imagination as well.
In an earlier life, Hui Ying had spent her days helping multinational companies to brand themselves better. These days, she would rather invest her time with clients who want to change their life narrative.
