Dr Lee Bee Wah, affectionately known as Hua Jie (花姐, Sister Flower in Chinese) to her residents and supporters, is one of the most out spoken and colourful politicians in Singapore. She is best remembered for her impactful speeches in Parliament. Lee's life story is an uplifting account of how a girl from a rubber plantation overcame the odds through grit, perseverance and ingenuity, started her own company, and became a prominent Member of Parliament and a strong advocate for the local engineering and construction communities.
