The book looks at the Workers’ Party of Singapore rise to its current position as the leading opposition party, the struggles it has gone through, and insights from the recent 2025 general election where it fielded its ‘best-ever slate of candidates’. It captures author Yee Jenn Jong’s first-hand experiences in the frontline of opposition politics, capturing behind-the-scenes challenges, constraints, and considerations that the party needs to navigate, and how volunteers power the party’s operations. It also contains analytical insights from co-author and political historian Loke Hoe Yeong, as well as opinions from established political observers and politicians. Yee Jenn Jong is a former non-constituency Member of the Parliament of Singapore, member of the Workers’ Party of Singapore since 2011, and author of best-selling political titles, Journey in Blue: A Peek into the Workers’ Party of Singapore and Non-Constituency Members of Parliament: What’s Next for the Scheme?

Loke Hoe Yeong is the author of The First Wave: JBJ, Chiam and the Opposition in Singapore and other books on the history of the opposition since independence. He is currently Head of Research at a trade association in the City of London.
