About the Author

As author Wendy Tan lay in Intensive Care a few years ago, drifting in and out of consciousness, a sense of unfinished business overcame her. There was work to be done, places to visit, and her three beautiful young children to raise. She had been an achievement-oriented and hyper-efficient professional, constantly ticking off items on her to-do list, but truth be told, her time, energy and attention were fragmenting. Now she realised: “I was busy doing my life, but I wasn’t living my life, and now it might be gone.”

She pulled through, and as part of her recovery process she picked up Taiji and Qigong and got reacquainted with her Eastern roots. With roots in Dao De Jing, Confucianism and Yin-yang, Eastern thinking integrates rather than separates, focusing on the whole rather than individual parts. In contrast, Western management seeks to isolate and manage the parts.

This book is the result of her deep thinking into bringing the two ideologies into harmony, as well as extensive interviews with leaders and executives who are at ease in both Eastern and Western worlds. Drawing on their combined wisdom, Wholeness at Work shows us how to stay balanced and complete within ourselves in face of challenges, dilemmas and internal conflict.
Wendy Tan is a consultant, writer and speaker who has worked extensively with multi-national organisations in the Asia Pacific region and government agencies in Singapore. As founding partner of Flame Centre, she partners with clients to develop and engage their human capital. Formerly a police psychologist and an organisational development consultant in GlaxoSmithKline, she holds a MSc in Organisation Development from Pepperdine University.
