50 Years of Urban Planning in Singapore is an accessible and comprehensive volume on Singapore's planning approach to urbanisation.

Organised into three parts, the first section of the volume—called "Paradigms, Policies, and Processes"—provides an overview of the ideologies and strategies underpinning urban planning in Singapore.

The second section, "The Built Environment as a Sum of Parts", delves into the key land-use sectors of Singapore's urban planning system; and the third section, "Urban Complexities and Creative Solutions", examines the challenges and considerations of planning for the Singapore of tomorrow.

This volume brings together the diverse perspectives of practitioners and academics in the professional and research fields of planning, architecture, urbanism, and city-making.
Heng Chye Kiang is Professor and Dean of the School of Design and Environment, National University of Singapore. He serves as a member of several editorial boards of international journals and as a jury member of many international design competitions in Asia. He is also Board member of the Building and Construction Authority, National Museum of Singapore, Centre for Liveable Cities, and former Board member of the Jurong Town Corporation and Urban Redevelopment Authority. His research covers the urban design and history of Chinese cities.

Heng Chye Kiang consults internationally and is the conceptual designer of several international urban design/planning competition winning entries in China. He publishes widely on urban history and design. His books include On Asian Streets and Public Space (2010), A Digital Reconstruction of Tang Chang'an (2006), and Cities of Aristocrats and Bureaucrats (1999).
