Meet the creators at the 2017 Epigram Books Pop Up Store

How did our favourite literary characters come about? What were the inspirations for some of our most-loved stories? Why do characters look the way they do?

These questions and more will be answered at this year’s Epigram Books pop-up store, when the creators of three of our favourite titles – Danger Dan and Gadget Girl, Mount Emily and The Phantom of Oxley Castle – will be at hand to mix and mingle (and if you ask nicely, we’re sure they wouldn’t mind signing your book).

On Saturday (9 Dec) at 2pm, Danger Dan creators Lesley-Anne and Monica Lim will be in the house to share their thoughts on the latest – and final – instalment in the series, Danger Dan and Gadget Girl: The Robot Revolution.

Through games for the young ones (and the young at heart), Lesley-Anne and Monica will talk about what inspired the series and offer some insight to the characters that you can find throughout the series, such as Danger Dan, Gadget Girl and their faithful friend, Power Paws.

Later that day at 4pm, author Low Ying Ping will be making an appearance to talk about the concluding episode in her delightful Mount Emily series, Goodbye Mount Emily.

She will also share her inspirations for the stories featured in the series, delve into the themes of each book, and take a little look at the two lead characters, Patsy and Elena.

On Sunday (10 Dec) at 2pm, artist Anngee Neo will share how she came to create those marvellous characters that you can find in The Phantom of Oxley Castle, surely this season's hottest picture book.

There will also be drawing and colouring activities for the young – and not so young – that you can turn into a keepsake or a neat DIY Christmas gift for someone.

Epigram Books' pop-up store happens on 8 Dec (2-9pm), 9 Dec (11am-9pm) and 10 Dec (11am-6pm) at 1008 Toa Payoh North, #03-08, Singapore 318996.
