“Hurry Up!” “Slow Down!” These are words that children hear every day. We may not hear the clocks ticking, but from morning to bedtime, they go on, relentlessly, making us rush or wait, even when we don’t feel like it. Sometimes, we need time to stop so that we can appreciate those around us.

  • “If you appreciate mesmerising, poetic writing that hits an emotional punch, go for this book. (Yep, even adults.)…I love the way Hurry Up, Slow Down is presented. Cursive penmanship is a dying art. It’s comforting to see it making a comeback. Not only is the premise entertaining, but engaging too. The illustrations are simple and provoking. Hurry Up, Slow Down is a walking testament that less is sometimes more. It has one of the rarest beautiful writing I’ve ever seen in children’s books. The first sentence is epic: Outside, time passes through a machine that counts the seconds and marks the days without mistakes. 5/5.”
—Priscilla Tan, Priscilla and her Books

Hurry Up, Slow Down from Portugal is about the mixed messages children receive about time—hurry up for school but eat breakfast slowly, for example...Perfect for a bedtime or afternoon read with young people.”
    —Akshita Nanda, The Sunday Times
