All about authors: The Stories About Stories conference

(Left to right: Kinokuniya's Kenny Chan, Ning Cai and Epigram's Edmund Wee.)

So we just had our first big event of the year: the first sales conference of the year, which we called Stories About Stories

It's called Stories About Stories because 12 authors turned up to tell stories about what it took to write their stories, all of which will be out in the first half of the year (we first blogged about here).

(Left to right: Akshita Nanda, Monica Lim, Judith Huang, Andre Yeo, Linda Locke and David Seow.)

Authors who turned up were (in order of appearance): Darren C Ong (The Trampolines That Nadia Built); Quek Hong Shin (The Incredible Basket); Pauline Loh (Lion Boy and Drummer Girl); Monica Lim (Secrets of Singapore: Botanic Gardens, co-written with Lesley-Anne Tan, her daughter); David Seow (Race to Rio); Linda Locke (Agnes and Her Amazing Orchid); Ken Kwek (Timothy and The Phubbers); Ning Cai (Misdirection); Simon Vincent (The Naysayers Book Club); Judith Huang (Sofia and the Utopia Machine); Andre Yeo (9th of August); and Akshita Nanda (Nimita's Place).

Who were the authors telling their stories to? Members of the various book retailers such as Popular and Kinokuniya (to name but two) as well as members of the media, such as The Straits Times, Yahoo and Singapore Women's Weekly. But enough yakkin' — here's a quick look at what happened.

Ning Cai once again astounds the crowd with her moment of mentalism.
