Looking through the eyes of three veterans of the industry, the insurance and financial advisory industries come to life through the pages of this book. This book is not just a reflection of the past, but also a projection of the future. Financial advisers – whether aspiring or experienced – will find this a refreshing read about the days of the past, as well as a clear look into the crystal ball about the days of the future.
Not only that, ‘Story of the Financial Advisory Industry in Singapore’ also contains practical tips on how to excel in one’s insurance and financial advisory careers. It is both a memoir and a guide book, all wrapped into one, so that any reader – whether a financial adviser, insurance adviser or an entrepreneur in another field – will benefit from the experiences of the veterans within the book. -
Alfred Chia: CEO, SingCapital, a financial advisory firm licensed by the Monetary Authority of Singapore. Alfred possesses over 30 years of experience in the insurance and financial advisory industries. Frequently consulted by the media for his opinions on financial matters affecting the common Singaporean, Alfred takes the message of financial prudence and planning further by sharing his knowledge through books and publications. He is the author of ‘Mortgage and Grow Rich’, “Grow Rich Singapore Style’ and ‘Last Wishes: Financial Planning, Will Planning and Funeral Planning in Singapore’. ‘Story of the Financial Advisory Industry in Singapore’ is his 4th book, together with two other veterans from the industry, Mr Mohd Amin and Raymond Ng.
Mohd Amin is one living legend of the insurance and financial advisory industries. He started his career in insurance sales in the 1960s, even before the independence of Singapore. Starting out in Prudential, Mr Amin would move to achieve significant milestones in both Great Eastern Life and thereafter MAA Financial Planners Pte Ltd, a financial advisory firm he founded with the passing of the Financial Advisers Act (FAA) in 2002. At the point of authoring this book with Alfred, he is already in his 90s, and he is still active in the education of financial advisers through the Association of Financial Advisers (Singapore) [AFA(S)].
Raymond Ng is the CEO and founder of RAY ALLIANCE Financial Advisers Pte Ltd. He started out in the insurance industry in the late 1970s. Accolades that Raymond has chalked up include Qualifying and Life Member, and the Court of the Table with the Million Dollar Round Table (MDRT). He also features regularly as a speaker, moderator and presenter at local and global financial services events, and is a frequent contributing speaker at MoneySENSE, the national financial education programme run by the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS). This book is part of his effort to pass on his knowledge to the younger generation of financial advisers.
