Most motherhood books tell you how to be the perfect mom and how to raise the perfect kid. This is not one of those books.

This is a collection of light-hearted, true stories about the bizarre experience of pregnancy, attempting to avoid public tantrums, making it through the terrible twos (and ones, threes and fours) and trying not to punch the husband while he is trying to be “helpful”. Jasmine Han & Shelly Holly, both moms with three young kids between them, regale us with their humorous collective experiences about surviving, and not perfecting, motherhood.

  • “Genuine, sincere and humorous, I’m Not Perfect. I’m a Mom. is a poignant memoir about two women’s realisation that being a mom is not about being perfect, but about being present and real.”
    — Jasmine Siang, psychotherapist, Heart to Heart Psychotherapy

“The first local book on pregnancy, birth, and babies is in the shops today and it's making us laugh so hard we need to do more Kegal exercises (mums, you know why!)”
    — SingaporeMotherhood.com

“There is also a universality to the stories that stressed out, overtired, under-showered mums will find reassuring. With a large print and wonderful, cheeky illustrations by Yong Wen Yeu throughout, the book is a breezy read that can easily be handled in one sitting, though I think it’s best enjoyed in bite-sized pieces when you’re most in need of a laugh.
     Kate, Sassy Mama

  • Jasmine Han was educated in the US, and is the co-owner of SLAP Dance Studio, where she is a pole dance and striptease instructor. She met her husband in a pub that she used to run, got knocked up, got married, and moved back to her hometown of Singapore, where her family lives. She is a working mom with two kids (and no helper), and wants more kids.

Shelly Holly hails from Texas, and she met her husband on Match.com. She recently relocated to Singapore because of her husband’s work, and became an expat mom. She has come to realise that for every culture, there are different ideas as to how children should be raised. She has one kid, no helper, no car, and no paycheque.
