Initiated by H55’s Creative Director, Hanson Ho and produced in collaboration with researcher-writer Justin Zhuang, INDEPENDENCE is the first book which documents the history of graphic design in Singapore since the 1960s.
The 376-page volume examines the scene from a socio-political standpoint, and contains interviews with pioneering designers as well as an album of their works. The cover features a black flag which is synonymous with both the idea of ‘a declaration of independence’ as well as ‘to revolt’. The inside of the book is designed to adapt to last minute insertions, while the occasional tip-in pages in various paper stocks feature the interviews.
