Girl Overboard!: A Rose Grows in the Jungle (book 2)
- About the Author & Illustrator
I never thought I'd say this—I'm going camping, OUTDOORS, on Pulau Ubin overnight. It's not like I had a choice, because it counts towards our grades. Luckily, Pink, my BFF, will be there with me.
All I have to do is survive one night, right? After all, what could go wrong in the JUNGLE?
The best thing about going to Pulau Ubin is the chance to get away from little brother Alex and his spider. But Rosie soon comes face to face with monitor lizards, bats and a haunted house. Ahhh! Not only that, she gets lost! Thank goodness her best friends Pink and Ben are with her, and together they try to find their way to the camp site. One thing's for sure—life in Singapore is exciting!
“Hooray! At last a book for the ever-increasing third culture kids. What a joy.”
—Fran Lebowitz, author of Tales From A Broad
“Girl Overboard! A Rose Grows in the Jungle by Sheri Tan and Illustrated by Fernando Hierro is the second in a series of middle-grade novels about Rosie Smith, a mixed-race, third culture child who has moved from New York City to Singapore. Her struggles—in a new country, in a new school—lead her to growth, understanding, and hope.”
—Pooja Makhijani, Notabilia
“A very promising voice…Rosie is bright and spunky, headstrong yet endearing—a girl who knows her mind. She is sure to find a lot of friends (and devoted readers) in Singapore.”
