  • About the Author
  • This beautiful photo book leads the reader on a visual and historical journey around Singapore’s Chinatown and its surrounding areas.

Showcasing the Peranakan culture and architecture, the stunning photos beautifully illustrate the accompanying text; while maps show the reader where to find the most picturesque and beautiful Peranakan shophouses and terraced houses around Chinatown, Blair Plain, Duxton Hill and Tanjong Pagar.

Reflecting on Singapore's history and the present, the book makes the perfect gift and an unforgettable keepsake not only for visitors to Singapore who want to learn more about local culture; but also for Singaporeans, too.

  • Born in Kamchatka, Russia, Tatyana Kildisheva has lived abroad for over 18 years. She came to Southeast Asia by way of New York and London and has called Singapore home for eight years.

Inspired by the Peranakan culture and the shophouses of Singapore, Tatyana made this the theme of her recent art. She painstakingly searches the island for the most beautiful Peranakan architecture. Areas such as Joo Chiat, Duxton Hill, Blair Road and Chinatown are often featured in her work and she is always discovering new heritage places to photograph. Tatyana knows and loves Singapore shophouses like few others. Her eye for detail can be seen when you look closely at her pieces with her love for Peranakan tiles being at the centre of many of her designs.
