FOODPORN cum Maundy Thursday
- About the Author
Authored by Desmond Kon Zhicheng-Mingdé, FOODPORN cum Maundy Thursday offers a sequence of interlaced prologues premised on food motifs, reminiscent of Gertrude Stein’s critically acclaimed work, Tender Buttons. Rich in cross-cultural references, this collection features poetry and microfiction that dip into the neo-noir genre, as a lens into the vagaries of human nature. This collection also represents an odic nod to W. B. Yeats’ widely known poem ‘Easter 1916’, which celebrates its publication centennial in 2016.
According to Michael Ryan, “Desmond Kon Zhicheng-Mingdé’s catholic taste, generous spirit, and love of great writing is everywhere evident in this wild, risky, heartfelt book.” In her praise of this collection, Amy Gerstler has this to say: “An incredible banquet of a book, packed to the gills with international literatures and gastronomies, starring a huge array of cultures, writers, philosophers, artists, mindsets. As in any notable, capacious menu, there is something here for every palate: prose, poetry, theory, emotion, big ideas, the transient and the eternal: Gertrude Stein, Annie Lennox, de Sade, Melanie Klein, Matisse, dolphin meat, durian, breast milk, chocolate violets. Bon appetit, dear reader!”
Desmond Kon Zhicheng-Mingdé is the author of an epistolary novel, a hybrid work, a neo-noir proem suite, and six poetry collections. Founding editor of Squircle Line Press, Desmond has edited over fifteen books and co-produced three audio books, several pro bono for non-profit organizations.
