Anima Methodi: The Poetics of Mirroring
- About the Editors
Invented by Desmond Kon Zhicheng-Mingdé and Eric Tinsay Valles, the anima methodi is a made-in-Singapore poetic form, comprising two stanzas of 16 lines, a volta, repetitions, and a meta sensibility. In this anthology, over 70 writers have engaged with the form, coming up with their own expressions of it. Some attempt as close a structural reflection of the formal requirements, while others create exciting variations through textual experimentation. Through its unique characteristics, the anima methodi allows great authorial introspection, while providing an open enough structure for authors to create intriguing innovations. Indeed, this anthology represents another rare collectible that pulls together poems of a distinctly unique poetic form.
Desmond Kon Zhicheng-Mingdé is the author of an epistolary novel, a hybrid work, a neo-noir proem suite, and six poetry collections. Founding editor of Squircle Line Press, Desmond has edited over fifteen books and co-produced three audio books, several pro bono for non-profit organizations.
Eric Tinsay Valles (b. Manila, Philippines) obtained undergraduate and graduate degrees from Ateneo de Manila and the University of the Philippines. He is pursuing a post-graduate degree at the Nanyang Technological University. He has worked as an editor, journalist and teacher in Manila, Taipei and Singapore.
